The simple historical origin of the barbed wire:

Before the invention of the barbed wire, humans sought out materials for fences around themselves, mainly materials such as trees, stones, prickly brushes and mud. When the colonists came to the Americas, they found that these were in short supply, so they began to seek to create a more economical fence. Started to produce hot drawn cold rolled steel wire more than 400 years ago. In 1870, various lengths of high-quality and smooth silk appeared. Stockmen used these smooth wire fences, but found that poultry were still going in and out. In 1867, two inventors tried to add thorns to the smooth silk. But there is no proof in practice. It wasn't until 1874 that Michael Kelly invented a very practical method of adding thorns to silk, and began to use it extensively.

Joseph Glidden found that in an ordinary village, there is a wooden rope with many sharp nails on one side of it, and a smooth iron wire is tied inside. This discovery made him extremely excited. It also made him invent the shape of the barbed cord. Glidden put the thorns in a temporarily prepared coffee bean grinder, and then twisted the thorns along the smooth thread and another thread around the thorn to fix the position.
